Most summer concert festivals have used promotional videos on their websites to promote their upcoming events.  These videos usually feature some of the bands that are on the bill in a good, yet predictable, mash-up that is intended to make the concert-goer excited for the event.  At this point it’s concert-marketing protocol.  The 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, however, has done something much different

The video is on the front page of the concert’s website, www.rockstarmayhemfest.com, and can be seen immediately upon arriving on the page.  I naively stumbled upon this gem while intending to research a different story.

Anyone who knows me, already knows that I am as excited about 'Mayhem' this summer as any child is on Christmas when they're expecting their new bike.  One of the major reasons I’m so giddy is due to the fact that I’ll be seeing Slipknot reunite to entertain us “Maggots” for the first time since 2009’s “All Hope Is Gone” Tour.  The video promoting this momentous event is so chillingly good that it made my heart pound in nervous anticipation.

The black and white video eerily starts out with a man walking through what appears to be an arena with a baseball bat.  The man maniacally drags the bat across what appears to be hundreds of equipment containers that are labeled for the Mayhem Festival.  As the video begins to just appear to be a bad dream some music begins to play and one starts to assess that he may be Clown from Slipknot.  The viewers suspicions are confirmed when the clown mask appears and we realize that this video is promoting the one and only Mayhem headliner’s Slipknot.

What I found most interesting, however, is a sneak peak of what the band’s concert backdrop will be for the summer tour.  It is, of course, in loving memory of deceased founding band member and bassist, Paul Gray.  The backdrop is simply a black curtain with the white number 2 emblem that represents Paul in the band.  It is a tribute that all Slipknot fans are expecting to see this summer, among others, I’m sure.

The video also features strategic product placement of the Rockstar Energy Drink. This is to be expected when you consider that the energy drink company sponsors the entire tour and other festivities during the all day music festival.  Although it is shameless promotion of the drink, it’s cool because Clown destroys it with a baseball bat anyway.

If you are not already excited for this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, watch this video and see if it doesn’t change your mind.  If it doesn’t give you at least a little tingle, you may be dead.  Check your vitals.

You can view the video below:

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival begins on June 30 in San Bernadino, CA.  If you live in the Tri-State area you have four different dates you can catch the Mayhem Festival on.  If you are willing to travel to Massachusetts you can see the show on August 3rd at the Comcast Center.  If Pennsylvania is a better option for you, you can catch the festival on August 4th at the Toyota Pavilion.  If you refuse to leave the Tri-State area you can catch the Mayhem Fest on July 31 at the Saratoga Performance Arts Center or on August 5th at the Comcast Theater in Hartford, CT.
