While rock fans around North America nearly dirty up their pants with anxious anticipation of the band’s headlining set on this year’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, the Slipknot camp seems happy to add fuel to the fire.

The band recently posted a short video clip (which can be viewed below) promoting something with the moniker “Antennas To Hell”. The 3:27 clip features all sort of behind-the-scenes footage of Slipknot’s “#0”, DJ Sid Wilson, which seem to have been collected over a fairly extensive number of years and album cycles. The more interesting thing, though, is the audio that the live clips are set to: a maniacal bastardization of “Surfacing” and “People = Shit” that can only be assumed to have been created by Wilson himself.

The ending of the clip provides the most straightforwardly cryptic message of all,

“Antennas To Hell 07.17.12”

A short time after the clip was unveiled, a tweet from Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor’s official Twitter account seemed to remove a bit of the ambiguity:

“…I believe 7.17.12 is when the Slipknot greatest hits album drops.”

&

“To anyone asking, Slipknot is not currently working on an album. Yet. We are putting together demos, but we’re not recording. Yet.”

These two posts clear things up, to an extent. Clearly ‘Antennas’ is some sort of a greatest hits compilation. The question is, will the disc be entirely composed of remixes of original Slipknot tunes a la Wilson? Will there be guest DJ’s? Fellow Roadrunner powerhouse Korn also features a member who has been embracing his DJ side of late. Could Jonathan Davis, or his alter-ego “J-Devil” for that matter, be remixing Slipknot tracks? I’d put my money on it. Wilson and Davis, or "DJ Starscream" & "J-Devil" will be DJing together on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Cruise that is set to sail later this year, maybe the two have been so keen to work together that they've gott started early.

More teasers should be expected in the coming weeks leading up to the release, which is less than 6 weeks away. Keep it locked to Tri-State ROCK for more on this story and all other things ROCK. “Like” us on Facebook and “Follow” us on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates!
