It seems that unearthing decades-old unreleased audio recordings is all the rage these days. When Tri-State Rock had the chance to chat with the legendary Vinnie Paul a few weeks back, he told us all about "Piss", the first (and only) unreleased Pantera track that would see the light of day.

(Check out the video from the interview here)

About a week later, an unreleased "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott track, entitled "Twisted", got the same treatment, much to the chagrin of thrash fans everywhere.

Not one to be left out of a good bit of media hype, ex-Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson, who had been a close friend of late Nirvana guitarist/vocalist Kurt Cobain, told Fuse that Cobain had written a solo record in the time immediately before his death. This led to an Internet frenzy surrounding the possibility of a posthumous solo release from the iconic grunge rocker.

These rumors were somewhat slashed, much to the dismay of music fans everywhere, when Nirvana producer Butch Vig told NME that whole Cobain may have been working out some tunes, nothing was recorded and no album was officially planned. Rather, Vig expressed that in the time leading up to his death, Cobain's interests were dedicated to wife Courtney Love' record with Hole.

While it remains to be seen whether further material could surface and be released, at least for the moment it doesn't seem likely. The closest we can hope to come is the documentary that Dave Grohl is working on about Sound City Studios, the recently closed iconic studio where Nirvana's "Nevermind" and many other influential records were created.

We'll have more information on this story as it becomes available. Keep it locked to Tri-State Rock for more on this and all other things ROCK!
